Technology Transfer Consultant

Location: East Asia (TBC)

Project Duration: 2-Year Project

The position of Technology Transfer Consultant involves the following business objectives:

  • Facilitating technology licensing, identifying and negotiating licensing agreements to transfer technology to industry partners.
  • Fostering partnerships between research institutions and commercial entities to enhance technology transfer.
  • Optimizing intellectual property, ensuring effective management and protection of IP to maximize its commercial potential.
  • Accelerating market deployment, developing strategies to quickly bring transferred technologies to market.
  • Supporting research commercialization, assisting researchers in turning innovative ideas into market-ready products.
  • Enhancing industry engagement, engaging with industry stakeholders to identify technology needs and opportunities for collaboration.
  • Conducting market analysis and evaluating market trends and demand to guide technology transfer strategies.
  • Providing training to researchers and staff on technology transfer processes and best practices.
  • Maximizing revenue generation through developing revenue models that capitalize on technology transfer activities.
  • Ensuring all technology transfer activities adhere to regulatory and compliance standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide consulting support to the Project Manager, Project Team and Clients on all aspects of the Technology Transfer management process.
  • New business development: contribute to defining new business opportunities while meeting with existing or potential clients, during technical meetings with the scope of obtaining new products or the revision of the progress status/completion of projects.
  • Maintain continuous contact with the clients, focusing on the clients’ requirements and the interests of the Project.  
  • Generate key documentation including the Technology Transfer Checklist, Gap Analysis that includes Process Design, Technology Transfer Master Plan/Scope, Technology Transfer Report, Project Timeline, and Action Item Lists. 
  • Identify key stakeholders for client requests and lead discussions to provide solutions.
  • Lead, track, follow-up, and monitor project activities to ensure alignment with expectations and agreed-upon timelines. 
  • Oversee planning, execution, and closure of all Engineering/Feasibility/Optimization phase activities. 
  • Chair regular meetings and correspondence between internal and client teams.
  • Maintain document/information repository. 
  • Contribute to the optimization of the production process, with continuous efforts to increase project savings on the technical side, while maintaining compliance and company procedures. 
  • Proactively identify, evaluate and mitigate risks to project timeline or commercial production. 
  • Work closely with the Project Team to fully understand the scope and requirements for projects triggered by events on existing commercial products.
  • Provide support as needed to Production during the Pre-Validation/ Validation/Stability phase, including review of process validation documents.
  • Provide support as needed to all Project functions throughout the course of the Project. 
  • Provide support as needed to potential and existing clients until the time of the production transfer from the client to a technology recipient.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment. 
  • Understand and apply emergency procedures and safety measures.  
  • Responsible for the effective and efficient management of client projects to enhance client service and satisfaction in the overall best interest of the Project. 
  • Actively involved in all aspects of the technology transfer and related negotiation process for new products/projects (including validation for commercial production). 
  • Supports projects of all sizes, scope, and complexity as it relates to the Technology Transfer and Commercialization field, R&D, Technical Excellence, Client Experience, Relationship Management, and Business Growth.  
  • Support a client’s Commercial Quotes Group with the evaluation of the technical costs of the new job orders, providing the material technical details, production schedule, processes, and supply costs, aligning with the interests of the Project.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Project Manager

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Science or Engineering and  5+ years of previous experience; or Advanced degree and 3+ years of previous experience. Experience in Engineering, Production, Quality, or relevant contract manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years of project/program management and/or client service experience related to technology commercialization and transfer. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset.
  • Excellent portfolio of successfully implemented technology transfer initiatives, projects, or programs.
  • Commercial business orientation and financial acumen.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of manufacturing/operational processes.  Excellent knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices and compliance requirements.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate with influence and motivate cross-functional team members. 
  • Well organized with strong attention to detail.  Ability to work both in a team environment as well as independently, as required. 
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, project management, and database management software products.
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written). 
  • Full professional proficiency in English.
